Carnivores converge on Texas Roadhouse

HARLINGEN – it was an energetic, friendly and busy environment at Texas Roadhouse Monday as the steakhouse opened for business in Harlingen.

The restaurant located at 4805 S. Expressway 77/83, in front of Lowe’s, opened at 4 p.m. after more than 4 months of construction and preparations.

Jon Deba, manager-partner, said Monday that everything had been positive during the restaurant’s opening and diners were giving great feedback about the restaurant and the food. There were more than 100 guests after 30 minutes of the restaurant’s opening.

“My goal is to give everyone what they know Texas Roadhouse is all about,” Deba said.

Paul Tanner of Rancho Viejo and Jeff Higgerson of Los Fresnos said they were the first guests at the restaurant since they arrived at 3:30 p.m.

“This is good because I’ve been going to the (Texas Roadhouse) in Brownsville since it opened,” Higgerson said.

“We’re there everyday – Monday through Friday,” Tanner said.

The two friends said they enjoy the restaurant’s music, friendly atmosphere and the happy hour drink specials.

The new restaurant will help Harlingen’s economy, Higgerson said.

Tanner said he expects the restaurant to do very well especially when Winter Texans return to the Valley.

David and Mary Serna and daughter Vanessa also visited the steakhouse Monday.

“This is great,” David Serna said. “It’s about time Harlingen got some good businesses.”

The Serna family said they drive to Brownsville at least twice a month to eat at Texas Roadhouse there because of the friendly service and good quality food.

Cody and Maria Hunt of La Feria also said they visit the Brownsville Texas Roadhouse but are pleased that they won’t have to drive as far anymore for a steak meal.

“It took a while but it’s good because we’re starting to see a lot of (economic) growth in the area,” Cody Hunt said.

Door greeters Isabel Navarro and April Ortiz said their goal is to keep people coming back and they will do their part by welcoming people with big smiles and cheerful greetings.
