Shotgun-toting man charged with breaking into Fultonville home

FULTONVILLE — Police say a man broke into a Union Street home and pointed a shotgun at the couple inside before fleeing the scene and driving home while intoxicated.

Before midnight on Saturday, Justin Cotter, 32, threatened the couple with the shotgun, which the homeowner tried to grab, injuring his hand in the attempt, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

Cotter fled the scene and drove home, where he was arrested a short time later, deputies said. He was charged with burglary, reckless endangerment, assault, menacing, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal mischief and driving while intoxicated.

He was being held at the Montgomery County jail on $10,000 cash bail and is scheduled to appear in the village of Fultonville court on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
