Well, ESPN the Magazine is releasing its first “The Perfect Issue” exploring what perfection is and the pursuit of an elusive goal and golf’s once near-perfect athlete Tiger Woods will grace the December 3 cover. other athletes featured in the issue are Kobe Bryant, Jimmie Johnson, Charles Woodson and Maya Moore.

Team Pike County qualifies for state games

The Special Olympics slogan is emblazoned on the T-shirts of the Pike County athletes. “Let me win if I can, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.”
Friday morning at the Jesse H. Colley Track at Troy University, between 45 and 50 Special Olympics athletes from seven Pike County schools participated in the Team Pike County Special Olympics Local Games and qualified for the state Olympic Games in two weeks at Troy University.
Troy Mayor Jimmy Lunsford welcome the athletes and their coaches to the event and told them that each and every athlete is a winner.
“Just by coming out here today and competing, you are a winner,” the mayor said. “We look forward to seeing all of you back for the state Games, and you’ll come as winners.”
Steve Dennis, Troy University athletic director, told the athletes that he was both honored and humbled to be a part of such a special event with such incredibly special athletes.
“Every one of you is a winner,” Dennis said. “To be a winner you have to have class, you have to have courage and you have to be willing to help others. Class is doing the best you can do. It’s being able to look in the mirror and know that you gave it a great try. all of you here today are winners even before you touch the track.”
With that, Dennis gave the command, “Let the games begin.”
The athletes competed in track and field events, including the softball and tennis throws, the long jump, the 50- and 100-meter runs, and weightlifting, golf and swimming.
The Team Pike County Special Olympics Local Games was a preliminary event for the Alabama Special Olympics that will be held at Troy University May 14-16.
Meredith Welch said the local Games were a great success and agreed with Lunsford and Dennis that every athlete was a winner.
“The Special Olympics are unique opportunity for our special athletes to compete and to enjoy the fellowship of other special Olympians,” she said.
“It does them so much good and it’s wonderful for them to have this opportunity.”
Hundreds of athletes from all across the state will participate in the state Games at Troy University. The Pike County community is encouraged to come out and cheer on these athletes who are not only winners, they are brave in heart.
“It’s heartwarming to see this special athletes,” Lunsford said.
“Their happiness shows and it’s humbling to me to be a part of this event.”

Why You Should Support Tiger Woods
I don’t condone what Tiger Woods did by any means and I firmly believe that any apology isn’t enough to make up for what he put his family through.
However, as a sports fan I am rooting for him.
I’m sure a lot of you are asking how can I support someone who completely failed as a role model and has more issues chasing him than Travis Henry has child support payments.
Well the answer is simple, I love watching great athletes. That is what sports is about, right? Watching men and women compete at elite levels against each other.
Tiger Woods isn’t just any athlete. Just like LeBron James isn’t just another basketball player. he is a once in a lifetime athlete. I’m not old enough to remember anything about Jack Nicklaus just like I’m too young to have watched and appreciated Michael Jordan.
I am old enough to have watched Tiger from the start. I’ve watched him go from the charismatic kid that was going to change golf to the buff, focused machine that had the golf world in the palm of his hand.
Every sport has great athletes, but it is extremely rare to find someone that changes the way we talk, watch, and analyze the sport. I don’t need to go into how much he has dominated since joining the Tour and I don’t need to remind you how insane it is that people routinely pick him against the field.
Golf is about as unpredictable as it comes just because of the extraordinary amount of variables that go into a tournament. Every tournament is different just based on who is playing, how have they been playing, what course is it, how is the weather, have they made changes to course, and it goes on.
Yet with all of these factors, Tiger rose above the variable. The answer just became “Well, Tiger is playing.”
I’m not suggesting we go back to praising Tiger like we did or that we let him off the hook for his “transgressions.”
I am suggesting that as sports fans, we enjoy and remember the fact that we are watching a once in a lifetime athlete. we are watching someone that has not only single handedly elevated the sport of golf, but elevated above the sport itself.
We are watching Tiger Woods.

Sports Nutrition For Advanced Athlete
Do you somehow feel that your sports is not enough or it doesn’t sustain you in your struggle to reach the next higher step in fitness? Chances are, your instinct is correct. It’s about time for advance sports nutrition. But before buying your advanced sports nutrition, there are few things to consider in assessing your readiness.
Level of recovery between games
First, several questions to ask yourself. Can you still feel the results you achieved during your off-season training?
