What was the New York Mets 2009 Slogan?

I read that the new Yorks Mets slogan in 2010 is Prevetion and Recovery. the articles listed slogans of years past like "Catch the Rising Stars", "Baseball like it Ought to Be" and "This is your Season." I can't find anything on what the 2009 slogan was. Anybody know what the slogan was last year for the Mets?

"CitiField – the new home of Amazin'"

Citifield- Injury Free since two weeks ago!

HEY, ATLEAST WE AINT THE CUBS !!!

    I'd rather be a Philly.

"I Wanna be Well" by the Ramones

What information do i need to know to fool people into thinking i am a new york Yankees fan?

i live in San Diego and i really don't care for padres because they really stink at baseball. So as a joke i root for the new York Yankees to piss of my friends and people who live in San Diego, but the thing is i don't know anything about the New York Yankees other than there good and the only player i know on there team is Alex Rodriguez. Plz give me some info i should know so people will actually believe i am a true New York Yankees Fan.

Start watching the Yankees. That's really all I can tell you. I guess you could visit their website and learn some stuff about their players.

Ok here's what you do (I am a METS fan btw so this going to kill me)

      1. On Wiki or even the Yankee's home site, search everyone of the players. Learn they're stats, averages, even personal stuff. even try to learn they're numbers. for example, Derek Jeter is # 2.

      2. Learn about Yankees that made it into the HALL OF FAME. that would really impress Cali that you know so much about HOF stars.

      3. Learn the history. Learn how the stadium was built in one of the poorest communities in NYC. Or how the Yankees OFFICIAL colors are white and DARK navy blue, not black.

      4. Defiantly by some Yankee's junk! Hats, shirts, you name it! Maybe even by a plack of one of the players!

      5. have you ever been to NY? would you like to visit? Go up there and pretend to go to a Yankees game (or actually go to one.) take tons of crazy pictures to make it look like you love your team & support them no matter what!

      6. the all time kicker, would be if you bought an autographed Yankees product, and made it like you met the player! that would fool everyone!

Here's what you need to know in order to make people think you're a Yankees fan:

      1) how to apply for welfare
      2) where the discount liquor stores are located in town
      3) how to hot-wire an automobile
      4) the nuances of saying "fahgeddaboudit!", "Absolutely", and " Pay up or I'll break your thumbs". Say it with an attitude.

If all you want to do is piss people off tell them you dont really know anything about the Yankees you just decided to like them because they win.

What information do i need to know to fool people into thinking i am a new york Yankees fan?

Union Assured Mets Will Meet Player Obligations

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) — Union head Michael Weiner says the players’ association is not worried about the lawsuit filed against new York Mets owners and its impact on the club’s financial stability.

Trustee Irving H. Picard, trying to recover money for victims of Bernard Madoff’s Ponzi scheme, sued the Wilpon family that owns the Mets and related entities in December seeking at least $300 million in fictitious profits. The Mets owners say they are victims.RELATED: Coleman’s Corner: Mets’ Union Shop

During a visit to Mets camp Tuesday, Weiner said the only concern for the union is to “make sure contractual obligations to the players are honored.”

“we have been assured through the commissioner’s office that’s the case, so there’s no concern there,” Weiner said. “as far as the broader questions, it’s in the interests of everybody associated with baseball that the National League franchise in new York be a strong franchise, and the Wilpons have always attempted to field a competitive team. They’ve had success doing that during their tenure, and we certainly hope they are in a position to continue to do that.

“But the real key is less what the payroll of the Mets is, (it) is that a team like the new York Mets, the National League entrant from new York, should be in a position to be a strong franchise.”

When asked about possible financial constraints preventing a big-market team from being active in free agency, Weiner said the union understands not all 30 clubs will be competing for players every year.

“whether it’s the Mets, whether it’s the Dodgers, whether it’s, frankly, the Twins, Tigers, any team, if there’s something that’s going to prevent them from participating as they normally would in whatever cycle that would be in bidding for players, that’s a concern,” Weiner said. “at this point, we’ve been assured through the commissioner’s office, the Mets are going to be able to operate as they have in the past.”

Weiner also addressed the possibility the Mets could try to prevent closer Francisco Rodriguez from achieving the conditions that would guarantee his $17.5 million option for 2012. it would become guaranteed if he finishes 55 games this year, or 100 over the 2010 and 2011 seasons, and is not on the disabled list during the final 30 days of the season. If the option doesn’t become guaranteed, the pitcher would receive a $3.5 million buyout and become eligible for free agency.

“we monitor every situation for compliance with the Basic Agreement, but I have every expectation the Mets will honor both the Basic Agreement and Frankie’s contract,” Weiner said.

There Is No Hope For The New York Mets

            Image: Flickr Creative Commons

The 2010 season was a dismal one for the New York Mets. Despite having the fifth highest payroll in baseball ($134.4 million), the Mets had a losing record (79-83) and missed the playoffs for the fourth straight year.

And while fans of other big-market teams are daydreaming about guys like Carl Crawford, Jayson Werth and Cliff Lee, Mets fans get Boof Bonser.

In fact, the Mets haven’t even been rumored to be interested in any big-named free agents or trade targets. why? because they have so much money tied up in underachieving players.

A look at the eight highest-paid players on the Mets roster shows a group that has failed to live up to expectations. whether it was injuries, sub-par performances or just plain ole sucktitude, these guys all failed to deliver.

And they are all back next year.

Let’s take a look at the eight highest paid players on the Mets, what they make and how they performed in 2010…

Great googily moogily. That is painful to look at. For $94.5 million in salary, the Mets received about $54.3 million worth of production.

For comparison, Josh Hamilton alone was worth 8.0 WAR ($32.2M) and he only made $3.25 million in 2010.

Outside of Jose Reyes, Jason Bay, and David Wright, the rest of the group was downright awful. Oliver Perez was so bad, that the Mets would have been better off releasing him, paying his salary and having Joe Replacement come in off the street and do his job.

But what really kills the Mets, is that all of these guys are back in 2011 (barring trades), they are committed to $111.5 million in salary for these eight players, leaving the their hands tied this off-season.

So far they have signed DJ Carrasco, Ronny Paulino, and Boof Bonser. any of those guys going to strike fear in the hearts of the Phillies? Yeah, didn’t think so.

Right now, the Mets look a lot like the New York Knicks have the past 4-5 years. but at least the Knicks had a salary cap as an excuse. the Mets just have themselves to blame…and maybe Bernie Madoff.

New York Mets: Home Is Where the Heart Is for Their Homegrown Stars

Fresh off the heels of rookie Jon Niese’s near-perfect one-hit complete game shutout, the Mets head to Baltimore tonight to resume interleague play.

After all the troubles the Mets have had on the road, the schedule softens up for the next week as they face the Orioles and Indians, two of the worst teams in baseball. If there was ever a time to remedy the putrid 8-18 road record the Mets are currently sporting, these six games are the time to do it.

Especially since after Camden Yards and the Jake in Cleveland, they’re headed to the Bronx to face a Yankees team that will likely have revenge on the mind, not to mention the home field advantage.

The Mets finished a 5-1 homestand by taking two of three from the Padres, a surprising team that had the best record in the National League coming into the series. The Mets are now 24-10 at home, the best record in the majors.

The most refreshing thing about the Mets lately is the contributions they’ve gotten from their homegrown prospects. For the first time in my lifetime, the farm system has produced quality and quantity on the big league team unlike anything I can ever remember.

When Jon Niese and Mike Pelfrey are on the mound, they join David Wright, Jose Reyes, Ruben Tejada, Ike Davis and Angel Pagan in the Mets starting lineup, giving them six homegrown guys in their starting nine.

Think about that for a second. this is not the Tampa Bay Rays or the Minnesota Twins here. The New York Mets, a big market National League team known for their uneven free agent signings, actually has an entire homegrown infield at the moment, with Luis Castillo on the shelf.

David Wright and Jose Reyes are still only 27 years old, and it feels like they’ve been here forever. Both are multiple time All-Stars who are just now hitting their prime. Now they’re joined by wunderkind Ike Davis, he of the sweet lefty glovework and the timely moonshot homers. Davis, for the record, is second among all rookies in SLG only behind the superhuman Jason Heyward.

The youngster Ruben Tejada, a 20-year-old middle infielder from Panama, has taken over the everyday second base duties in the past few days filling in for the injured Luis Castillo, and he’s brought a defensive presence that Castillo has lacked since his Florida Marlins days.

Tejada, a defensive wizard who only played 37 minor league games at 2B, impressed the Mets brass with his surprising offense after hitting .289 as a 19-year-old in AA last year and .294 in AAA this year. If he hits .250 with the big league squad and continues to play fabulous defense, the Mets seem likely to hand him the job for the foreseeable future.

Amazingly enough, another 2B down in the minors, 2008 first rounder Reese Havens, is tearing up his first go-around in AA , and gives the Mets even more potential homegrown depth at the position, should Tejada start to fade.

Angel Pagan, yes, is technically another homegrown guy. Drafted by the Mets in the fourth round of the 1999 draft, Pagan was an original Brooklyn Cyclone in 2001 and toiled in the minors for six years before the Cubs acquired him and gave him his first taste of big league ball.

Before the 2008 season, Pagan was reacquired by the Mets and he has become invaluable in center field, both with the glove and the bat, a classic late bloomer who has become a under-the-radar star in New York.

According to FanGraphs, Pagan leads all National League center fielders with a 6.9 UZR this year, second in the majors behind Alex Rios, who himself is having a monster season as well. looking at his value, it’s amazing how good he’s been without the accolades or hype of more highly touted players.

Pagan was worth 29.2 Runs above Replacement in 2009, and another 19.9 RAR so far this year. Not bad for a guy who had to beat out Gary Matthews Jr for the starting center field job going into the season. as you can see in his WAR rating, he has been worth almost five full wins above replacement in the last two years replacing Carlos Beltran.

Then there’s Mike Pelfrey and Jon Niese, two gems drafted by the Mets back in 2005, a draft class that’s shaping up to be one of the best in Mets history. Pelfrey was the ninth overall pick in round one, Niese was picked in round seven.

They also picked up flamethrowing reliever Bobby Parnell in round nine, and top catching prospect Josh Thole in round 13 that year. Kudos to the scouting department on that one. Parnell and Thole are being groomed down in Buffalo right now and likely will be a huge part of the future of the team as well.

Niese was born on the day of the Mets last World Series victory, the day of game seven of the 1986 World Series. I guess he was just destined to be a Met. Niese is 2–0 with a 0.56 ERA in his two starts since returning from the disabled list, and he’s struck out 12 batters and walked one in those 16 innings.

Not too shabby for a 23-year-old who tore his hamstring off the bone following a horrific injury last August that epitomized the 2009 Mets in a nutshell.

And what can you say about Mike Pelfrey right now? If it weren’t for the unconscious Ubaldo Jimenez out in Denver, Pelfrey would be a Cy Young contender. he is not a flash in the pan who’s gotten lucky. what we’re seeing with big Pelf is a 26-year-old who’s finally learned how to pitch and get hitters out.

A far cry from the pitcher who used to throw fastballs three out of every four pitches in his early days, Pelfrey has mixed in a devastating splitter to become a true ace in the making, a man who throws with a purpose on every single pitch to every batter he faces.

Always a heavy ground ball pitcher, (career GB% of 50.2% ) Pelfrey’s strikeouts have shot up dramatically this season, a career high 6.47 K/9 that, paired with his minuscule BB/9 and HR/9 have translated into high marks in the more traditional stats as well. Pelfrey is 8-1 with a 2.23 ERA in 12 starts, including a 4-0 record and a 1.19 ERA in his last five starts.

Jenrry Mejia, still being held hostage by Jerry Manuel , is another 20-year-old with tremendous upside, that is, whenever the Mets smarten up and send him down to the minors to stretch him out so he can join the rotation.

Needless to say, with the home-cooking the Mets have gotten from their young stars, as well as the hospitality of their home ballpark, it’s looking like home is where the heart is for the Mets.

And that is a big credit to Omar Minaya and his scouting department. he deserves a ton of credit for turning around the farm system, and although it takes years to pay off at times, clearly it’s paid huge dividends to this 2010 team, and it might end up saving his job.

Hey. Winning cures all ailments, doesn’t it? Now, if they can play close to .500 baseball on the road, this will be a team that could be playing in October. clearly the pressures of the big leagues haven’t deterred the young stars yet, and as long as they keep flying under the radar, this rollercoaster season could have a happy ending for Mets fans.

How did the Florida Marlins beat the new York Yankees in the 03 World Series?

June 7, 2010 at 2:27 pm · Filed under New York Yankees News

I was like 9 at that time and never knew how they pulled it off.So how did they do it

They were the better team, thats how.

Behind Josh Beckett’s masterful pitching. they won the clinching game in new York.

Anyone can beat anyone 4 out of 7 in baseball. It wasn’t that huge of an upset (compared to other sports).

But the starting pitching for them was key.

They were a better team then the Yankees. Josh Beckett even shut the Yankees down in his first start.

beckett was pitching, and he got jorge posada out for the last out of the world series, by fielding a grounder and tagging him.

Gonzo has been accused of using PED’s, but whether he ever did or not, there’s no drug that will enable anyone to hit that pitch. It took a smart, experienced hitter who was focused on making contact and hitting the ball about 130′ and keeping it 10′ off the ground at that distance.

            1 name— Josh Beckett.

He was on fire, and beat the Yankees singlehandedly. yes, the Yankees were the better team, but the Marlins got them in that series because of pitching.

Pitching. Josh Beckett was lights out.

They played small ball and bunted and stole a lot.

Joe Torre was out managed by Jack McKeon.
