How many men that if they got married they could never watch sports or go to sporting events again?

If a guy got married, he couldn't watch, ESPN, go to his favorite team game, etc, how many men do you think would be married if sporting events were taken away from every men that got married?

If part of the deal in getting married is that you never watch sports again then I cant believe any man would want to marry a woman that insisted on something like that.

That DID happen to me!
I also wasn't allowed to see any of my friends, spend my own money,and never had sex at all for over 3 years.
Thankfully, I'n divorced now.

Some people are under the impression that all men like sport. of all the people that I know only one would actually watch a sport and that is F1 racing. I occasionally go to a soccer match or have a round of golf but it would appear that it is an American preoccupation to watch "macho" sports, personally I think it is monumental bore, especially American football or basketball, the last is totally mind destroying, terminal boredom, I cannot imagine anyone actually parting with hard earned money to watch such inane drivel. Each to his own they say, if I were newly married there would be more things on my mind than watching sport…..

You don't know what you're talking about. My husband watches all the sports he wants as a matter of fact he even got me watching the basketball playoffs and the Orioles games. I watched so much of it I even know the players and what some of the terms mean. by the way, the special of Ricky Williams last week, Run Ricky Run, was especially eye opening.

Art Schlichter Under Investigation For using Investors’ Money To Gamble on Sporting Events.

Former Ohio State quarterback and Big ten Offensive MVP Art Schlichter is reportedly in trouble with the law again after another episode revolved around gambling.

As reported by The Columbus Dispatch, Schlichter was running a ticket-brokering operation he promoted as “an investment opportunity.”

He reportedly was using investors’ money to make large bets on sporting events.

After the reports, Schlichter texted this to The Dispatch:

“It will help a lot of people,” Schlichter said in a text message about talking with authorities. “This addiction is a (expletive).”

Schlichter has served time in 44 prisons or jails since 1994, mainly for fraud and forgery to feed his self-proclaimed “addiction” to gambling on sports.

He has been rumored to have flushed away millions of dollars due to his gambling.

Schlichter, 50, played at Ohio State 30 years ago and moved on to play for five different pro football teams throughout his career.

He was the fourth overall pick in the 1982 NFL Draft.

Schlichter has said in the past that he’s committed over 20 felonies in his life.

In ESPN’s outside The Lines in 2007 Schlichter estimated he had stolen over $1.5 million.

His addiction cost him his marriage in 1994 when FBI agents raided his house.

He even was caught gambling while in prison in 2004.

Hopefully he didn’t bet on Super Bowl XLV, too.

The network contains many different programs and many different sporting events throughout the day. The typical highlight show, called Sportscenter, is run everyday up to 8 times a day and most of the night long. This is where the bulk of sports lovers’ go to, to get the days scores, updates and highlights. Throughout a day, one can see many commercials, not only attractive to supporting upcoming events, but also to promote the station itself, like Sportscenter. most of the commercials that they run actually involve athletes whom either support a product for some company or show the media what sporting event is coming up in the next couple of days. The graphics are beyond belief, because half of the day on the channel is live television, so its graphics are great. But even those shows that are not live, the graphics are very appealing to the viewer which helps gain interest and keep them watching. what the network does best is that they broadcast a wide variety of sports.

Certain games will be able to be seen through a video-stream on the website, which is an added bonus so to say for some people who don’t get cable or those you only get regular television stations. You can also email the company about anything you need help with, or something that you just may want to know. You can also talk live to broadcasters and sometimes players through online chat, a recently added feature to the website. what the website does good is they provide the very latest news stories and scores so that the active viewer can make a couple of clicks and get want they want. They can do this because of the technology that has become of today’s age, and all of the reporters that go out, get the stories, and just relay (if not type it themselves) the information back to the main station, allowing for quick responses and additions. a busy person who loves sports most likely will turn toward the website before the telecasts.

Now that we know the background of the two, let’s get into a little more depth. first of all, the online version has way more information to give out and goes into greater depth. They can do this because they aren’t stuck down to a time limit so to say. The program has to fit its shows and events into time frames, while the website can just have tabs with sub-tabs and so on with much more information for the viewer. so you could say that the website also supplies more content. The viewer has way more access to all the different types of sports, providing more content for those viewers. Certain areas to pertain better to the two forms of media though, for example: Live events are better suited for the television network while plain old up-to-date stats and scores are better suited for the website. You can probably guess some of the others to, but that was just an example of each.

According to Jakob Nielsen’s “Top ten Mistakes in Web Designs”, this site fits the criteria, or doesn’t fit it very well. I say this, because after reading through the mistakes, then looking at the website, I really saw no problems. Now, the part on taking more than 15 seconds for a page to appear did happen, but I think that is more due to my computer, not due to their website. They even use the colored links, to help those know where they have already been, which is a smart thing to do. Also, it gives certain tabs to relate to the different sports available. by doing this, is saves the viewer time. They can just click on a tab, instead of having to click through 5 or 6 screens. in my opinion, they did a fantastic job when they created this site, plus they continue making updates, also a good thing for the viewer.

Well, since I have used both medias in my life, I would have to say that I prefer the television media better. I prefer it because it’s easier for me. I turn on the television and just start watching whatever is on. They show sportscenter like 3 times in a row, so if I miss something, I can catch it next time through. plus, being the sports fanatic that I am, I love almost every live event that is on. so I tend to use the television version of ESPN a lot more than the website version. Also, on the television network, they have had a few series of shows, like movies. The newest of them is called “Playmakers”, which is about a football team and everyday life surrounding it, such as drugs, sex, and lying. It is really cool and something that I hope they continue to have. It’s always good to have a change or an addition every now and then; at least that’s what I think. so, if someone asked me my opinion, on which media to use, I would tell them the television media, because that’s the one that I prefer.

Gruden Is Underrated As An Announcer

Almost every sports fan will tell you they love ESPN because of all the sports coverage and SportsCenter. The latter has become a fixture for the 18-35 crowd for over three decades now. It’s also hard to fathom that Chris Berman has been a big part of the show’s success for that long. It’s not that he’s not great – he is great. It’s just that no matter how talented someone is, it’s very difficult to keep a television-related job for that long. I am a fan of ESPN sports coverage, SportsCenter, and Chris Berman; however, none of them are the reason ESPN is my favorite sports network on satellite tv from www.bestchoicetv.com.

Unlike most people, my favorite aspect of ESPN is Monday Night Football. I know. I know. You’re probably thinking the above sentence doesn’t make sense. But since Jon Gruden is one of the announcers, it makes perfect sense. A lot of people can’t stand him, especially the people in the media. But I dont know what these critics are watching. I have never seen or listened to a more passionate announcer in my life. And not only is he passionate about the game of football, but he understands and educates on strategy like no other. Every time I watch a game, I feel like Im being entertained and educated at the same time – and its great. I hope Mr. Gruden doesnt go back into coaching.

Not sure what you exactly mean by going outside the box in regards to sports coverage. but finding a sports site that gives you coverage of all sports, and they do it in a different format than how ESPN does it will be hard to find. You may be able to find sites specific to an individual sport that gives you what you are looking for, but you will need to find that unique site for all the different sports you follow. For example, the other big site out there is Fox Sports but you get much of the same stuff there that you do at ESPN.

ESPN’s 2010 Monday Night Football Schedule

All 12 Playoff Teams from 2009; 13 Divisional Matchups; three MNF Appearances for Jets, including new Meadowlands Stadium Prime-Time Opener

The 41st season of Monday Night Football will kick off on ESPN with a doubleheader Monday, September 13 – Baltimore Ravens at new York Jets (7 p.m. ET) and San Diego Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs (10:15 p.m. / 9:15 p.m. CT) – and will continue with a total of 17 prime-time games. Following a successful season that delivered the 15 biggest cable household audiences of the year, ESPN’s MNF schedule will feature all 12 playoff teams from 2009, including both the defending Super Bowl champion new Orleans Saints and AFC champion Indianapolis Colts.

In the first game of the nationally televised ESPN week 1 doubleheader, Mark Sanchez and the Jets will host Joe Flacco and the Ravens. the Jets advanced to the AFC Championship last season, while Baltimore reached the AFC Divisional playoffs. the matchup will be the first prime-time regular season game in the new Meadowlands Stadium and the first of three MNF appearances for the Jets, the NFL’s most aggressive franchise this offseason having added former NFL MVP LaDainian Tomlinson, Super Bowl XLIII MVP Santonio Holmes, All-Pro defensive back Antonio Cromartie and 2006 NFL Defensive Player of the Year Jason Taylor.

In the doubleheader nightcap, running back Thomas Jones and the Chiefs will host Phillip Rivers and the defending AFC West champion Chargers at the newly renovated Arrowhead Stadium, one of the NFL’s iconic venues. It will be the first MNF game in Kansas City since Nov. 22, 2004, and it is the first time the MNF doubleheader will conclude outside San Francisco/Oakland since the season-opening two-game format was adopted in 2006.

A week later, Super Bowl MVP Drew Brees and the NFL champion new Orleans Saints travel to the West Coast to play Frank Gore and the San Francisco 49ers September 20.

Play-by-play commentator Mike Tirico and analysts Jon Gruden and Ron Jaworski will call the Ravens-Jets opener, and the MNF games each week at 8:30 p.m. ESPN Deportes, ESPN’s 24-hour Spanish-language domestic sports network, will continue to offer a Spanish-language production of MNF games during the 2010 NFL season. Additional MNF “game around the game” content will be available throughout the day across ESPN’s multimedia platforms.

ESPN’s MNF Schedule Highlights:

Appearances by both Super Bowl teams – new Orleans Saints at San Francisco (Sept. 20) and at Atlanta (Dec. 27); and Indianapolis Colts vs. Houston (Nov. 1);new York Jets lead all NFL teams with three MNF appearances. Multiple teams have two appearances each – Baltimore, Chicago, Houston, Minnesota, new England, new Orleans, San Diego and San Francisco; 13 of 17 MNF games involve divisional matchups, including Green Bay Packers at Chicago Bears (Sept. 27), new York Giants at Dallas Cowboys (Oct. 25), Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Redskins (Nov. 15), new York Jets at new England Patriots (Dec. 6) and Chicago Bears at Minnesota Vikings (Dec. 20).

Super Bowl Champion Saints Come Marching in September:

Sept. 13: Season-opening doubleheader – Ravens at Jets and Chargers at Chiefs – features three AFC playoff teams from last season, as well as the prime-time NFL regular season debut of both the new Meadowlands Stadium and the newly renovated Arrowhead Stadium;

Oct. 11: Brett Favre, still undecided about his NFL future, could face his former team when the Minnesota Vikings play the new York Jets. Both teams advanced to the conference championships last season and are hoping for another Super Bowl run in 2010;

Oct. 18: 2009 NFL leading rusher Chris Johnson and the Tennessee Titans play David Garrard and the Jacksonville Jaguars in a key AFC South game;

Oct. 25: Annually one of the NFL’s most anticipated games, Eli Manning and the new York Giants travel to Texas to face Tony Romo and the NFC East champion Dallas Cowboys.

Peyton’s place and McNabb’s new Home in November:

Nov. 1: For the second consecutive week, MNF will feature a Manning. this time it’s Peyton’s turn as the reigning NFL MVP and the AFC champion Indianapolis Colts host Matt Schaub and the Houston Texans in the first MNF game at Lucas Oil Stadium;

Nov. 8: Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers try to recapture the AFC North from Carson Palmer and the defending division champion Cincinnati Bengals;

Nov. 15: Donovan McNabb faces his former team when new starting quarterback Kevin Kolb and the Philadelphia Eagles travel to the nation’s capital to play the Washington Redskins;

Nov. 22: AFC West contenders meet when Rivers and the Chargers host the Denver Broncos;

Nov. 29: Larry Fitzgerald and the NFC West champion Arizona Cardinals host the 49ers.

Jets-Pats Grudge Match and Bears-Vikings Clash in December:

Dec. 6: the Jets and Patriots renew their AFC East rivalry in a game that could decide the division;

Dec. 13: Ray Lewis and the Ravens travel to Houston to battle Schaub and the Texans;

Dec. 20: Adrian Peterson and the Vikings host Cutler and the Bears in a key late-season NFC North matchup;

In four seasons on ESPN, Monday Night Football has registered eight of the top 10 all-time biggest household audiences in cable history, led by the Green Bay Packers-Minnesota Vikings telecast (10/5/09), which attracted cable’s largest household audience ever (an average of 15,136,000 million homes and 21,839,000 viewers). For the 2009 season, ESPN’s MNF delivered the 15 biggest household audiences (and top 14 among viewers) for cable television in 2009, averaging a 10.4 rating and 10,315,000 homes (14,382,000 viewers). It was also the first time on ESPN that the series averaged higher than a 10 rating and 14 million viewers for the season. Accompanying NFL content on ESPN.com, including “Monday Night HQ,” sparked an increase of Monday traffic to the site of 24% over the previous season with an average 84.6 million page views per week.

An study in the British Journal of Sports Medicine tallied 287 documented injuries – including 20 concussions and one death – among 2,567 competitors at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancounver, ESPN reports. Athletes’ heads, spines, and knees were damaged most often, and 25 percent of all injuries sustained were grave enough to prevent immediate training or competition.

“Overall, we are a little concerned about the increasing number of injuries that are not just minor,” Arne Ljungqvist, medical commission head of the International Olympic Committee, said. “But it seems there is a conflict – the interest of making sport more interesting perhaps but also a little more dangerous.”

Statistically, the most dangerous event this year at the Vancouver Games was women’s snowboardcross, in which 16 of 22 competitors (72.7 percent) sustained injuries. According to the study, men’s snowboardcross, bobsled, ice hockey, short-track speedskating, freestyle skiing, and alpine skiing were also among the most dangerous. Nordic skiing, curling, luge, and freestyle moguls all proved least so.
