Pi Day

If you’ve looked at the calendar today you’ve might noticed that today is Pi Day. 14 march (3/14) is a holiday of mathematical constant pi (pi symbol is greek letter π). if you don’t know what is pi, you better get back to school. Even miserable Wikipedia knows that pi is mathematical constant whose value is the ratio of circle’s circumference to its diameter. who could have thought that over 12 000 people monthly is searching “what is pi” at Google. Btw Uncle G has terribly failed as he didn’t make any Google Doodle for this great occasion. Shame on you Google – you better don’t miss it next year if you still want to be recognized as geeky company.But let’s leave Google and proceed to our beloved one. the Pi.

If you are true geek, you should put this picture instead of your girlfriend / boyfriend photo in your wallet / purse. however if you are not that radical mathematician you can just go out and get drunk or something. Remember to sing the pi song until you lose conscious to proper celebrate Pi Day.

When celebrating and eating Pi pie you can amuse your friends with some pi day jokes which you will find below.

The mathematician says: “pi r squared.”The baker replies: “No! Pies are round, cakes are square!”

Q: what do you call what happens when you cut a jack’o’lantern by its diameter?a: Pumpkin Pi!

Uh, right they are not very funny… So maybe rather you should exchange with them some pi facts like, for example, that in Star Trek episode Wolf in the Fold Spock has neutralized an evil computer by ordering it to compute to the last digit the value of pi. Then you can watch Pi movie by Darren Aronofsky and finally try to fall asleep counting pi digits instead of sheeps.

    What are good designs to put on a pi day king of t-shirt?

    Its for a school project and I have to make a Pi t-shirt for pi day but I'm going to turn it in late anyways so you can reply to me whenever. Anything will do its just a school project ~please reply~

      Happy Pi Day!

      One local grade school decided to celebrate Pi day on Friday. and while there was some pie to eat, the real celebration was in honor of the numerical Pi, otherwise known as approximately 3.14.

      Thanks to math teacher Brian Littrel, students at Oak Grove West grade school got to examine mathematical concepts related to Pi, be creative, and even be a little silly.

      Littrel says it’s a way to get kids into learning and out of the classroom and that, So they learn about it ahead of time and then when they come here, they kind of put that to work with all the stations they’re working at. It gives them an idea of things outside the classroom. you can still learn and have a good time at the same time.”

      Seventh grader Lauren Legaspi said that,”you can go to the stations and do all the Pi stuff, like list all the numbers in order and stuff. It’s pretty fun.”

      One of the main events: a pie eating contest. Student’s chowed down on different flavors of pie for some bragging rights.

      To wrap up the day, we heard students even got to smash a pie on the Principal’s face.

      Sunday marked Pi Day. for those who don’t love math, that’s 3.14.

      In order to commemorate the date, on Monday, students at St. Patrick School in Carlisle brought pie, cookies and round cakes to school and measured the circumference and area of each baked good. Then they ate the treats.

      I have to confess that until today I’d never heard of Pi jokes, but it seems today March 14, is National Pi Day, which celebrates the mathematical constant of Pi. the holiday was made official last year when the House of Representatives passed a resolution about it.

      The mathematical constant of Pi is defined as being the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter or alternatively the ratio between a circle’s area and its radius squared, and it approximately equals 3.14159. this equation is the reason that National Pi Day is celebrated on March 14, because of the first three numbers, 314.

      Pi jokes therefore are a means of teaching the concept of Pi to students and most of the jokes are founded on puns about pies and seem to be incredibly corny, but if they capture the attention of student’s that has to be a good thing.

      If you go to mahalo.com, you can find a selection of Pi jokes, ok so they’re not that funny, and also a video by Al-G-Bra, (see what they did there), with even more Pi related jokes.       All about Pi

      SAYRE – Some students at Epiphany School spent the day Thursday celebrating Pi.

      Not apple or blueberry – but the irrational number representing the ratio of a circle’s diameter to its circumference.

      Pi Day is usually celebrated on March 14, Epiphany math teacher Kathy Donahue explained, but since that day falls on a Sunday, the school celebrated early. Students in grades 5-8 participated in the event, she said, with members of Epiphany’s Math Club, which was formed this January, manning the various activity stations.

      Pi day included a number of activities for the students, she said, including measuring circular objects, making posters incorporating the Greek symbol for Pi, a demonstration of “Buffon’s Needle,” a probability experiment that can be used to estimate Pi, and “Simon says,” wherein students repeated the numerals of Pi in a contest to see who could remember the most digits.

      Students also decorated the hallway of the school with a paper chain with a digit of Pi written on each link, she said. Pi was written out to around 600 digits on the chain, she said.

      Cathy D’Ortona, an advisor of the Math Club who said she is a member of the math faculty at Mansfield University and also has children enrolled at Epiphany, said the celebration, and Epiphany’s math club, attempts to make math fun instead of rote and repetition. Pi Day teaches the students new applications of Pi, she said, and the activities tested their measuring and mathematical skills, as well as teaching them how errors in measuring or rounding can affect results.

      The students also held a “dime drive” in connection with the event, with each grade challenged to bring in 314 dimes, with the proceeds being donated to mission funds. the fifth grade completed the challenge, D’Ortona said, and will receive a class reward.

      Epiphany’s Math Club currently includes students in the seventh and eighth grade, D’Ortona said, but could be extended to other grades in future years.
