‘First I want to acknowledge that this week we finally vanquished oneof the world’s great villains’, she stated.

‘And I for one am thrilled to say goodriddance to Katie Couric’.

Killing it: Tina Fey returned to ‘Saturday Night Live’ to play Republican Sarah Palin, taking shots at Katie Couric and the media and poking fun at her upcoming cameo in ‘the Hangover 3′

Running mates?: Riffing on ‘the Apprentice’, Darrell Hammond as Donald Trump joked that Ms Palin could be his running mate…if she could ‘sell more chili than Ne Ne Leakes over the course of a hot summer day’

The weekly comedy sketch show’s ‘GOP 2012 Undeclared Candidates Debate’ was its first take on the upcoming 2012 election.

Mrs Fey and other cast members poked fun at this week’s real debate betweenseveral Republican candidates, including Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty,Texas Representative Ron Paul and former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum.

Except the SNL debate was billed as featuring the ‘candidates you wish you knew less about’.

Those ‘candidates’ included former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney (played by Jason Sudeikis), Tea Party favourite Michele Bachmann (Kristen Wiig), former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich (Bobby Moynihan), Jimmy McMillan of the Rent is Too Damn High party in new York (Keenan Thompson) and Donald Trump (Darell Hammond).

The faux debate was moderated by Bill Hader, playing Fox News’ Shepard Smith.

Bowed out: Bobby Moynihan’s Newt Gingrich ducked out early from the ‘debate’, after the moderator suggested he ‘didn’t really want to be president’

Lifetime: Jason Sudeikis as Mitt Romney said: ‘they say I’m rich and disconnected. they say I’m a dead fish. they say I look like a villain in a Lifetime movie’

As Sarah Palin, mrs Fey said she was ‘happy to be on Fox News Channel, which both pays me and shows me the questions ahead of time’.

She also said she was ‘bonin’ up on experience’ by filming a ‘Hangover3′ cameo in the Middle East, and studying her ‘Rosetta Stone English’.

She said she hoped the ‘lamestream media won’t twist my words by repeating them verbatim’.

As Mr Romney, Mr Sudeikis said: ‘they say I’m rich and disconnected. they say I’m a dead fish. they say I look like a villain in a Lifetime movie’.

As Mr Gingrich, Moynihan ducked out before speaking, after Mr Hader suggested he didn’t even want to be President.

Channeling Ms Bachmann, Ms Wiig threatened a ‘Fatal Attraction’ and challenged America to a creepy staring contest.

Fair and balanced: Bill Hader played Fox News correspondent Shepherd Smith as the debate’s moderator, lobbing tough questions at the ‘candidates’

Crazy: Keenan Thompson, as new York gubernatorial candidate Jimmy McMillan, said: ‘I want to address those in the Birther movement who claim I was born a billy goat’

Face off: Kristen Wiig’s Michele Bachmann challenged America to a staring contest, while Mr Hammond’s Trump ‘fired’ Osama bin Laden

Mr Hammond’s Donald Trump said: ‘Osama, boom, you’re fired’.

He also shamelessly plugged his TV show, ‘the Apprentice’, and joked that Ms Palin could be his running mate…if she could ‘sell more chili than Ne Ne Leakes over the course of a hot summer day in Times Square’.

Wrapping up the debate, Mr Thompson’s Jimmy McMillan said: ‘I want to address those in the Birther movement who claim I was born a billy goat.

‘Your suspicions are confirmed… Vote for me, the black Lorax’.

SNL ‘presidents’ gather for Web video summit

NEW YORK — the comedians who played presidents on “Saturday Night Live” have gathered for a comedic summit in a new Web video on FunnyOrDie.com.

The video, posted Wednesday, stars Fred Armisen as President Barack Obama. during the night he is visited by the ghosts of presidents past, who urge him to push for financial reform.

Will Ferrell reprises his President George W. Bush, Darrell Hammond plays President bill Clinton, Dana Carvey returns as President George H.W. Bush, Dan Aykroyd plays President Jimmy Carter and Chevy Chase returns as President Gerald Ford.

Jim Carrey, the lone comedian not a veteran of “SNL,” appears as Ronald Reagan. the “SNL” player who typically played Reagan on the show was Phil Hartman, who died in 1998. (Maya Rudolph, another former “SNL” cast member, also plays Michelle Obama.)

The video was directed by Ron Howard, who previously worked with Funny or Die for a popular video that brought him back to his days with “The Andy Griffith Show” and “Happy Days” to support Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign.

Wednesday’s video was also created with a political motive – made in association with Americans for Financial Reform, a pro-regulation coalition of labor and consumer activists.

“All it’s meant to do is capture the attention, present a question and stimulate some thought,” Howard said in a phone interview.

It was written by “Simpsons” writer Al Jean and Adam McKay, the film director who co-founded FunnyOrDie.com with Ferrell and who was a writer for “Saturday Night Live” from 1995-2001.

It’s believed to be the first time all the major presidential impersonators from “SNL” who are still alive were reunited for a sketch.

“It was a blast,” said Howard. “There was a lot of experimentation, a lot of ad-libbing.”

He added: “I actually felt like now I understand a little bit when you get to manage or coach an all-star game.”

Howard said he suggested doing a video with McKay after speaking about financial reform with the composer Hans Zimmer and the filmmaker James L. Brooks. He then spoke to McKay, who came up with the premise.

Days after that conversation, on Sunday, the video was shot over 15 hours in Van Nuys, Calif., where several of the performers traveled to for the unlikely reunion. Armisen had to hurry, having appeared on “Saturday Night Live” the previous night.

Within hours of being posted, several hundred thousand people had watched the video.

In a video on the making of the sketch, Carvey said of the group of comics: “Accidentally, we influenced the flow of history in North America.”
