What do you think about the winter olympics?

Okay so the 2010 Winter Olympics are being held in my hometown I think there awesome while some people think there a complete waste of time and money. What yall think?

Sports are awesome, in general. International friendly competition is also great. Testing the human limits, also good on my book. so far so good.

Sadly there's a lot more to this (and most) Olympics, in practise. They are too much a PR operation for the participating states and the sponsoring corporations, so they ruin what they should be, what the public wants to believe they are all about.
Why should an athletic event multiply homelessness or criminalize poverty? why should an athletic event drown the hosting city in debt for years to come? why can't the hosting country officially admit its past and present crimes e.g. regarding the first Nations here, or the genocide+diaspora in Sochi (the next winter Olympics)?

It should not need to be that way…

I live in Vancouver Canada. I love the winter Olympics..however, after seeing how the Olympic committee runs things..they seem to have their own rules and laws irregardless of the Country that hosts the games..I hope it doesn't come back to Vancouver.

Booooorrrrrriiiiiinnnnng.

I would call skiing a past time, not a sport. It's like having a board game olympics or a walk on the beach olympics – great fun for those who go but does anyone really want to watch it?

They are awesome! however I do think they need to break through with more XGames sports- both summer and winter! Extreme sports- thats what the public wants to see!

Is this story idea "original" and "interesting" in your opinion?

So there's a guy named Ashley who absolutely hates his name because it's way too "girly". he goes by Ash.

Well, when he was in grade four, he moves across the province to be homeschooled. the end of the eighth grade comes around, and his mother wants him to go through his high school years…well, in a public school. he comes back to find his old best friend from kindergarten, Richard, in the "sporty/popular" group. (Richard also knows Ashley's real name…by accident xD)

Ashley hates sports.

And what Richard has become.

Only in it all for being considered popular.

Well, he goes along with Richard and his whole group of sport-playing people, when he'd rather pick up a pen and paper and write poetry or play guitar.

He hates his life. he hides his true writing and musical passion behind a huge, boyish grin and a few good lies.

Well, after Christmas, a new girl begins to attend his school. While Richard and everyone were talking about upcoming sporting events, he goes over and tries to talk to her. he finds out her name is Anastasia, but she goes by Talia.

After a few weeks of occasional talking, Talia invites Ash to her house. There, he meets the madness of a family Talia is proud of.

They hang out a lot, and Richard and everyone is beginning to feel left out and ignored by Ashley.

Talia's big brother, Timothy, calls Ash's cell phone one day, saying that he found his number on Talia's list of phone numbers, and that it had a heart beside it. he teased, saying that "Talia's in looooooooove!!!" and stuff.

Days later, in the cafeteria quite near Richard and the crew…Ash fights the urge to kiss Talia. he doesn't know what to do…but Talia kisses him. Richard sees this, and is instantly angered. "if she's worth more than spending time with his own best friend, so be it…" and challenges Ash to a fight.

It's either that or Richard tells the entire school Ash's real name.

Ashley accepts the fight…and Talia tries to stop him. She invites him over to her house again one night. after that night, he realizes that he's living a lie, and that there are more important things in life than having popular friends and everything.

He tells the entire school his real name himself.

And he tells everyone about his poetry and music.

And he's proud of himself, just as Talia is proud of herself and her family…it was Talia who showed Ash how much he's missing.

The message is that you should "let everyone know your name", or in other cases, "be who you truly are". Don't live life according to what everyone sets out before you…take your own steps.

Do you like the idea? It's very condensed…sorry if you got confused, but it's kinda 3:30 in the morning xD
