      What's the weather like in Portland Maine?

      In January 2010 my husband and i are relocating to maine for his PHD program. I was wondering what the weather would be like… lots of snow….freezing?? and if we should wait till May to move there or go ahead and move in the winter.

      also what are some nice areas to live in? by the beach? or downtown?

      and what should we stock up on before coming? snow pants? snow shoes? etc? we have winters in KY but nothing more than 3-4 inches of snow maybe a foot sometimes… a dusting…

      Portland Maine isn't very cold except in te winter. THere is no day when you NEED to wear shorts in the summer. but you will probally use shorts once in a while. but from vacation I can tell you that you'll most likely wear long pants especially near the water. in the winter it gets rather cold. So I would would bring lots oof warm clothes!!!

        How could Nascar rearrange the schedule to help avoid rain outs?

        …also places like Fontana where the track was extremely hot could there be some swapping race dates in the schedule to maybe benefit the drivers and fans?

        …As it is now no changes have been made to the 2008 schedule so what ideas do you have?

        get a recent farmer almanac and see where to expect what wheather during certian weeks and then arrange to that.

        I think it would be difficult to predict Mother Nature a year ahead of time. But, it was a good move to back the Vegas race up by a week as they did a couple of years ago, now they went back to the old date and it will be quite cold again.

        Well it is a good theory but rain will happen and it is a gamble on the weather.
        The schedule is made a year ahead so it would not be practical to rearrange for "suspected" rain.

        NASCAR has boxed themselves in because of the length of their season. they only have 3 or 4 weeks off during the whole season. Rain is kind of an unpredictable thing, so its hard to change the schedule for it. Of course there will be rain during the Pepsi 400 at Daytona, but how can you move that race? its tradition. Take Fontana off the schedulef and give me back darlington on labor day weekend. then take away a Dover race and another cookie cutter track and add two more road courses.

        Hmmm… Predicting the weather on a certain day more than a year in advance, sounds pretty easy to me…

        I know rain outs suck, and there have been more than a few this season, but there's nothing that can be done about it.

        As for a new schedule, I would have liked to see one of the dates from either Louden or Pocono removed and give a date back to Rockingham. I would like to then see the remaining race at Pocono dropped to 400 miles in length.

        I'd have NASCAR talk to Mother Nature. Maybe they can
        get her to give money to them for some advertising and
        she'll see that it's in her best interest not to rain on race day?

        How could Nascar rearrange the schedule to help avoid rain outs?

          With the weather currently playing havoc with the racing scene here at home, HRI have issued details of the latest news on upcoming fixtures over the next two weeks:

          Dundalk – Saturday 4th December (additional meeting) – first Race 12.35pm (pls note change to earlier time due to conditions, 8 race card, last race 4.05pm).
          Dundalk – Sunday 5th December (transferred from Friday 3rd December) – first Race 12.35 pm (pls note change to earlier time due to conditions, 8 race card, last race 4.05pm).
          Clonmel – Sunday 5th December (has now been called off in the last few minutes. Meeting Rescheduled for Wednesday 15th December).
          Fairyhouse – Wednesday 8th December (transferred from Thursday 2nd December) – first Race 11.45pm.
          Dundalk – Wednesday 8th December (already scheduled) – first Race 6pm.
          Punchestown – Thursday 9th December (transferred from Sunday 5th December) – first Race 12.35pm.
          Dundalk – Friday 10th December (already scheduled) – first race 6pm (last day of the Flat season).
          Clonmel – Wednesday 15th December
          Navan – Sunday 19th December (transferred from Saturday 4th December) – first race 12.15pm.

          Starscape in MD this Saturday??

          Is anyone going? I am trying to decide if I should drag my crew 3 hrs to MD to do this festival dealie…and I don’t usually like to spend $50 on parties. will it be worth my $50 bucks?
          Coming from new Jerz. It is a normal beach up there? I think we are going. I hope the weather is nice!!
          Oh also… are you staying there over night? is that what most people do?
