Predators pull 3 points ahead of Red Wings

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Martin Erat scored the only goal of the shootout to lead the Nashville Predators to a 4-3 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night.

The Predators, seventh in the Western Conference with 83 points, lead the eighth-place Red Wings by three.

COL0RADO 5, ST. LOUIS 3: the host Blues got off to a quick start — Alex Steen matched the franchise record with a goal eight seconds into the game — but the Avalanche got two goals from Peter Mueller and a goal and two assists from Paul Stastny.

ATLANTA 4, BUFFALO 3: Ryan Miller was pulled after giving up three goals in the first 6 minutes, and Jim Slater’s third-period goal won it for the host Thrashers.

MONTREAL 3, N.Y. RANGERS 1: Sergei Kostitsyn’s deflection snapped a third-period tie, and visiting Canadiens won their sixth straight in the 600th meeting between Original Six rivals.

WASHINGTON 7, FLORIDA 3: Brooks Laich scored twice as the visiting Capitals romped.

TORONTO 4, OTTAWA 1: Phil Kessel got his 26th goal and John Mitchell and Mikhail Grabovski scored 19 seconds apart in the second period for the visiting Maple Leafs.

Dallas 8, San Jose 2: Mike Ribeiro and Brenden Morrow each scored twice, including short-handed goals in the third period, for the host Stars, who set a season high for goals.

NOTEBOOK: Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin said he was sorry that a hit he laid on Chicago’s Brian Campbell resulted in an injury, and then added that he was “disappointed” it resulted in a two-game suspension. Campbell, meanwhile, is expected to miss up to two months with a broken collarbone and a fractured rib.

MEMPHIS 104, CHICAGO 97: O.J. Mayo scored 24 points, going four-for-five on 3-pointers, and the host Grizzlies sent the Bulls to their eighth straight loss.
